PURPOSE

The database administrator will be responsible of the performance, integrity and security of a database and will be involved in the planning and development of the database, as well as in troubleshooting any issues. This person will also make sure that the data remains consistent across the database, that its clearly defined, that the users access data concurrently, in a form that suits their needs and that there is provision for data security and recovery control (ensuring all data is retrievable in an emergency).

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead, coordinate and participate in key process improvements;

  • Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and system administrator function to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of systems to meet business demands;

  • Monitor and test system performance and provide performance statistics and reports for all corporate servers and systems;

  • Recommend solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications;

  • Installs revised or new systems by proposing specifications and flowcharts, recommending optimum access techniques and coordinating installation requirements;

  • Maintains database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters, implementing new releases, deploy update and patches, completing maintenance requirements, evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products;

  • Provides information using SQL scripts by answering questions and requests;

  • Supports database functions by designing and coding utilities;

  • Promote and create a safe and healthy work environment and align activities with company vision and values.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and 3-5 years equivalent work experience;

  • Database Performance Tuning, Database Security, Promoting Process Improvement, Problem Solving, Presenting Technical Information, Quality Focus, Database Management, Data Maintenance, Operating Systems, Attention to Detail,
    Information Security Policies Working technical knowledge of network, PC, and platform operating systems, including MS Windows, Linux and Solaris;

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Enterprise and latest versions;

  • Experience with 'Always On' high availability database is an asset;

  • Extensive application support experience, knowledge of EPICOR environment;

  • Experience with DBMS ORACLE and SQL;

  • Understanding of structured query language (SQL);

  • Experience with database software/web applications;

  • Knowledge of 'relational database management systems' (RDBMS), 'object oriented database management systems' (OODBMS) and XML database management systems;

  • The ability to work quickly, under pressure and to deadlines;

  • Up-to-date knowledge of technology and the Data Protection Act;

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment;

  • Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals;

  • Hands-on experience designing, installing, and troubleshooting cabling and wiring systems;

  • Knowledge of applicable privacy practices and laws;

  • Strong analytical and organisational skills;

  • Strong interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and proven analytical and problem-solving abilities;

  • Ability to conduct research into telecommunications issues and products as required;

  • Highly self motivated and directed;

  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
